Veterinary Medicine is a career that has a lot of challenges in different areas. For example, in public health, pharmacology, politics and in the creation of new investigation about animals and human. In the next lines I will detail the most important challenges in this discipline for me.
In public health a vet have several challenges in relation with grant to people a good health and a good environment to live. We the responsibility of watch for the welfare of the population. The challenge here is try to matein a good sanitary state to animals and human. To achieve this point, the vet has to know the principal zoonotic diseases and have knowledges of the public political. We have to explain to people how have a good possession of their pets and how they can prevent diseases like mange or ringworm.
In veterinary medicine we have a lot of drug that can be use in human but not in animals. We have to investigate in this area and create new and effectives drugs that can be useful in own area. For example aspirin is very good to the head pain in human but it can be toxic to animals like the cat.
Also like a vet we have a lot of challenges in politics because we have the duty to push government for found new laws about animal welfare and animal maltreat. To obtain this, we have to study more about the constitution of our country and have the faculty of draw up proposes that could be present in the parliament. The vet has to be ready to interfere in political. We can`t permit that animals be maltreat.
Another challenge is in investigation. We have to know more about the diseases that affect our animals and how we can fight with that. I think that the University of Chile, like a public institution, has to demand more recourses to the government to execute studies. In this way, we will have more tools and knowledges to give to animals a best treatment when they are sick. Also with the studies in the diseases of animals we can have a lot of benefits to human because we share many problems with animals like lupus, cancer or cardiologic diseases.
We can see that vet a much work to do yet, but nothing is impossible. Just we have to found the way to resolve and catch these challenges.
